The 52nd ROK-US Security
Consultative Meeting (SCM) was held in Washington, D.C., on October 14, 2020.
ROK Minister of National Defense Suh Wook and U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark
Esper led their respective delegations that included senior defense and foreign
affairs officials. By holding in-depth discussion in person despite the
COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s SCM served as an opportunity for the Minister
and the Secretary to reaffirm the robust ROK-U.S. Alliance and combined defense
posture capable of responding to any security challenges, whereas last year’s
SCM presented the development directions for the mutually reinforcing and
future-oriented Alliance based on the Joint Study for the Future Defense Vision
of the ROK-U.S. Alliance. Outcomes and significance of the SCM are as follows.
