The Republic of Korea (ROK) Minister of National Defense Kim Yong
Hyun and the United States of America (U.S.) Secretary of Defense Lloyd
J. Austin III held the 56th Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) in
Washington D.C. on October 30, 2024. Senior ROK and U.S. defense
affairs also participated. As an annual Ministerial-level consultative
mechanism, the SCM led the process of the ROK-U.S. Alliance's
development into the most powerful alliance in the globe. It has also
played a pivotal role in developing the Alliance into a Global Comprehensive Strategic Alliance by
providing a strategic direction.
