본 논문은 한반도 내에서 활용될 수 있는 단거리 극초음속활강체의 다양한 특성을 분석하였다. 그리고 이를 기반으로 북한 극초음속활강체의 개발의도 및 활용전략을 고찰하고 우리군의 대응개념과 발전방향을 도출하였다. 단거리 극초음속활강체는 낮은 활강고도 및 기동성으로 미사일대응체계를 돌파·회피할 가능성이 있다. 그러나 속력적 측면에서 대응이 원천적으로 제한되는 수준은 아닐 것으로 판단된다. 우리군은 4D전략을 근간으로 우주기반 미사일감시능력을 확보하는 등 핵·WMD대응체계의 능력을 확충하여 극초음속활강체 위협에 대응해야 할 것이다.

Performance Analysis of Short Range Hypersonic Glide Vehicle and its Military Implications in Korean Peninsula

In this study, a computational model of trajectory of hypersonic glide vehicle(HGV) is presented. Using the model, performance of short range HGV applicable to korean theater of operation is analyzed. There is a possibility that short range HGV could break or evade anti-ballistic missile defense system due to its maneuverability and low gliding altitude. However, HGV is not utterly immune to intercept because its speed is comparable with ballistic missiles. Characteristics of short-range HGV and North Korea’s traditional strategies on ballistic missiles imply that North Korea could exploit HGV to threat or attack Republic of Korea in the future. To build response capabilities against HGV threat, Republic of Korea needs to enhance its WMD Response System capabilities such as space-based missile detection.
